Borderlands 3 Review

Now, we are going to review Borderland 3 that will make you curious and excited to play this game.

1. Story Review Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 Review

Continuing the story of the second series, Borderlands 3 takes place a few years after Handsome Jack’s death. At the end of Borderlands 2, we finally discover the fact that there are still many other Vaults scattered throughout the galaxy waiting to be secured before falling into the wrong hands. After Jack and Hyperion disappeared, the twin brothers (Troy and Tyreen Calypso) created Children of the Vault (COV), a cult made up of super-powered bandits.

By having the power of COV, Troy and Tyreen aim to collect all of the Vaults to become true masters. The two brothers did not look as charismatic and crazy as Handsome Jack. However, they still have enough attractive charm to appear as criminals who are ready to be blown up at any time.

Acting as the four new Vault Hunters Amara, Moze, Zane, & Fl4k, you will meet Lilith and the Crimson Raiders troops again. Of course, you will return to help Lilith to collect all the Vault keys before falling into the hands of the two brothers.

Unfortunately, in the middle of the process of achieving that goal, the Siren power of Lilith was taken by Troy and Tyreen, which made them even stronger. Minus Lilith’s unreliable power, you have to gather reinforcements from fellow Crimson Raiders. Some of them are even playable characters in the three previous Borderlands series.

What kind of conflicts will Vault Hunter go through? Can Lilith and Vault Hunter stop the madness that Troy and Tyreen are causing? And how will all this madness end? All these questions will be answered only when you play Borderlands 3.

2. Gameplay Review Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3

The gameplay is the part that makes Borderlands 3 an almost perfect game. For those who have never played the Borderlands series before, Borderlands (2009) is the first game in history to successfully combine the RPG and FPS Actually genres, there are already other games that try to combine the 2 genres but none of them succeeds.

Borderlands 2 even managed to develop a better combination of the two genres. In Borderlands 3, Gearbox again succeeded in developing the Borderlands series, making the game almost perfect. The weapons here are unique and more varied than what I found in Borderlands 2.

The equipment such as Class MOD, Relic, Shield, and Grenade Mod is also very good. In Borderlands 2, there are a lot of weapons and equipment that are useless because they are not very useful when compared to some of the options available. For example, all pistols that are not really needed when compared to Unkempt Harold and all sniper rifles must lose damage to Pimpernel.

At Borderlands 3 (BL3), we haven’t found any weapons or equipment that are really dominant. The skills of each character are also much more interesting than in the previous games. Each character has a build of more than 1 which is equally good to play. With 4 characters that you can play now, Amara, Moze, Zane, and Fl4k; there are lots of builds that can be tried so that making this game will feel fun if you play it continuously.

What if the gameplay is compared to other FPSs which have been recently released such as Rage 2 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood? We think that Borderlands 3 still has better gameplay than those two games. Rage 2 is better at providing real-life battles.

However, in BL3 there is still 1 character who is far superior to the others. Lilith is the most superior character in BL1, Salvador in BL2, and Nisha in BL: TPS. For example, in BL2, the character’s progress scale was too high because it could reach OP10. However, this is not matched by damage scaling that is commensurate with all characters. Only Salvador can really do so well at such a high level.

3. Story-building Review Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3

You have to know that story-building is an important element that can determine whether a game is worth buying or not. All of the Borderlands series did not really focus on the plot. Maybe you don’t find the same quality storyline as Skyrim, Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Witcher 3, GTA V or other games that really focus on this aspect. However, the storyline may still be fairly good for multiplayer games.

In addition to the story-building, characters are also elements that determine whether you will play the game or not. In BL2, Handsome Jack is an entertaining and impressive character. We think Handsome Jack could be included in one of the most iconic villain villains in the history of multiplayer gaming.

Unfortunately, we haven’t found the iconic villain in BL3. We can even say that the Calypso brothers (Tyreen and Troy) are too cheesy. Nevertheless, the characters from the previous games reappear here with their own characteristics. Although indeed of all the characters that have reappeared, my favourites are Claptrap and (Tiny) Tina.

4. Features and Performance Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3

There is one interesting feature in BL3. This game has 2 Co-Op systems: Cooperation and Coopetition. Coopetition mode is the same as the one you’ve played on BL2 and BL: TPS. The loot drop in this game can also be picked up by all players.

It can be fun if you play with your friends. But if you play with other players, you have to fight over the loot with them. Loot itself may be irrelevant if you play with a character whose level is high or low.

For example, you play using the character at level 24 whereas other player using the character at level 35. In the Coopetition system or in most other Co-Op games, the loot that you both get is at level 24 or level 35. Since your character is at level 24, you cannot use loot if the drop is level 35. It because there are level requirements. On the contrary,  the character which is at level 35 doesn’t need loot at level 24 because the stats are no longer relevant.

Summary

Were regular split screen players on a PS4. IMO unless you’ve got a HD projector to play on then don’t buy the game. Yes there are performance issues that change each week depending on the patch / hotfix but we’ve managed ok. It’s annoying sometimes the frame rate is poor and menus lock up the game for a short while.
